TIP #1:  Set a time to check your text messages.

Due to cell phones, emails, facebooking, and all the tools now available at the tip of your finger tips that enables instant communication ....these devices have set an expectation for instant response. How much downtime do you allow yourself to get things done? When you are spending time with someone, how much of your attention are you providing them with? Provide your feedback on our wall what your response time is like when answering texts.

TIP #2: Silence the custom ring tone/alert when receiving text messages.

HOW BREAKING HABITS EARLY SAVES THE LIFE OF ANOTHER: Statistics revealed here states teen girls aged 13 to 17 on average receive 4,050 texts per month. Teen boys average 2,539 texts per month.

What's nice about texting is the ability to multitask while interacting with a friend via text.

The problem is the constant pinging sound distracts you from getting what you are working on accomplished OR distracts your attention from the time you may be currently spending with your friend or family member.

The sound  creates a habit of allowing yourself to react to outside distractions.

Later when driving, the sound makes it tempting to read the text. So to avoid a drastic situation happening on the road in the future, your best bet is to get in the habit of either silencing your text beeps when spending time with others or trying to get something done, so the habit of silencing your text beeps when getting behind the wheel is carried on.

TIP #3:  Avoid the texting cult.

There is always at least one point in the night — when it gets really quiet, and you look around and realize that all your friends are busy texting. Send everyone a text asking if we should call each other instead to break the silence.

TIP #4:  Be conscientious to those around you.

People think they can text while listening to a story but this habit creates a multi-tasking habit that can dangerously carry on while driving in the car. By getting in the habit of being in the moment and fullly listen to the person's story.

TIP #5:  Install a software that deactivates text messaging service while car is in motion.

There are many software companies that provide this solution.
