The Newsome High School Wolfpack Marching Band began the 2012-2013 school year on a high note after a generous donation it received from one local business that put its words of promise of support into action.
During a recent grand opening ceremony of its new FishHawk office, located at 16321 FishHawk Blvd in Lithia, Busciglio Orthodontics presented the band with a $2,500 donation to be used by the band as they wish.
“It’s a way to show our support of the band and the community,” said Derek Busciglio just moments after the check presentation. “We wish the best for the band and believe that it’s a great partnership.”
Band Director Christian Finch, who is now in his fourth year leading the 143-member strong group, was grateful and did not hesitate to comment on the importance of such support which helps the band in a number of ways.
“On behalf of the band and the school, I would like to thank Derek and Katie Busciglio for their generosity,” Flinch said. “The money is a great help and will be spent wisely.”
As for what the season has to offer, Flinch said that after completing one full week of band camp and several mini-camps throughout the summer, the band is more prepared than ever before.
While appreciating the help of the local businesses, Flinch also emphasized the hard work of each member as well as the support offered by the parents.
“To say that I’m proud of these students is an understatement,” he said. Such commitment is always important but Flinch mentioned that this year’s show is more challenging than anything the group has ever tried before.
With several upcoming state-wide marching competitions and the county Music Performance Assessments, Newsome is sure to showcase its clear depth in both musical and visual talent.
The Newsome Wolfpack Marching Band will host its own Marching Festival on Saturday, October 27, from 1-9 p.m., during which several competition-level high school marching bands will participate from all over the state of Florida.
